ComputerAide's beginnings, growth, expansion and now, our new name
In 1982, an idea was launched for the need of an "Aide" to teach the new end user of personal computers.
Computers were awkward and software was slow and limiting. The "How-To" manuals for both were poorly written, bulky and the new terminology was Greek to most users.
The original IBM PC and Apple computers were being assembled and quickly sold to corporations, individuals and schools.
There was no source for assistance between the emerging computer companies and the curious and absorbing computer user. There were no services available for tech training or support.
In 1982, ComputerAide of Nantucket was established and opened the very first "Computer Learning Center for Everyone" at the Sanford boat house. Both IBM and Apple computers were used for individual training one-on-one to children, students, management/executive users and local island businesses.
In 1984, ComputerAide, Ltd. was incorporated in NY State and opened a retail, training center in the Carnegie Hill neighborhood of Manhattan. IBM, Apple, Compaq and ATT computers were made available. Children's educational software and "productivity" software (Word, WordPerfect, Multimate, VisiCalc, Lotus, etc.) were taught and sold at this location.
Our tag line and long-term decorum was promoted as "We are the personal in personal computers."
In 1985 from surging client requests, the business model for ComputerAide™ was changed to provide all computer services "on-site" - in the home or office. Additional staff were hired to meet the exploding demand for computer training, support, installations and advisory of software for children and for office productivity.
In 1990, ComputerAide™ expanded from client referrals throughout the NY metro area to include Manhattan, Northern New Jersey, Westchester and Long Island. ComputerAide™ supported approximately 1,000 clients.
In 1999, ComputerAide™ formed a group of business school college students called "CyberAide Associates" which provided customized website design and maintenance services to small businesses, non-profit organizations and individuals via the internet. Services expanded to include design and creation, composing web text, 24/7 hosting, training on website editing and real-time uploading of changes.
In 2004, ComputerAide™ began a franchise model. This provided immediate neighborhood service hubs throughout Manhattan, New Jersey, Westchester and all Long Island. ComputerAide™supported approximately 4,000 clients.
In 2006, a quicker more reliable internet allowed for on-line e-commerce, long distant learning and fast remote computer access services to flourish.
In 2008, ComputerAide™ began providing remote access software called "CyberAccess". Once installed, secure instant access to any Windows or Mac computer, mobile device, smart phone and tablet could be established via the internet to anywhere and at anytime. Remote access fueled our client expansion to include all of the Metro NY area plus the Adirondacks, New England, Cape Cod, Nantucket, Mid-Atlantic states and Florida.
In 2009 to capture a better and more complete customer tech support experience, ComputerAide™ quickly established its first specialized service called CyberAccess. This unlimited growth service provides instant online technical troubleshooting, problem-solving or just simple Q&A issues to either your computer or any mobile device via a secure internet connection.
CyberAccess has been eagerly adopted by all existing and new clients located throughout the metro and USA market.
Short or formal online classes and tutoring are provided with "TechTutor". These remote training sessions help you master the use of your computer - instantly, anytime, anywhere, on any computer over the internet.
In 2010, the explosion of high-speed broadband connectivity into the home and small businesses, moved ComputerAide™ beyond training and support into new services for wireless networks, WIFI mobility and a surge of various laptop, notebook and netbook computers. The "Age of Mobility" was adopted into the evolving business model.
Our new modern tag line was updated to
